What the Trevor Bauer decision means and what could come next for the

Following a four-day hearing, Los Angeles Superior Court judge Dianna Gould-Saltman ended the temporary ex parte restraining order issued against Dodgers pitcher Trevor Bauer by a 27-year-old San Diego woman accusing him of sexual assault. After hearing testimony from the accuser and other witnesses, Gould-Saltman concluded Thursday that the pitcher did not pose an immediate threat to her. The woman said that Bauer, who has denied any wrongdoing, choked her to the point of unconsciousness and punched her repeatedly during sex, as well as initiating sex acts when she was unconscious. Gould-Saltman said the “injuries as shown in the photographs are terrible” but that Bauer did not exceed the limits that the woman set. The judge also stated that the woman’s petition was “materially misleading” with regard to phone calls allegedly made by Bauer. What does the ruling mean for Bauer, who remains under criminal investigation by the Pasadena Police Department as well as being the subject of an MLB investigation? What Major League Baseball can doMLB and the players association agreed Thursday to extend Bauer’s paid administrative leave for a sixth time, this time to Aug. 27. If his leave is not extended after that point, MLB can place him on unpaid suspension under the collectively bargained domestic violence policy. Bauer remains under active MLB investigation. Bauer does not have to be charged with a crime to be suspended under the policy, and there is precedent for the league levying punishment before a criminal case is complete.
