NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian is “once again leading the way” in her handling of the COVID-19 pandemic as she moves to a ‘living with the virus’ approach, says Sky News host Chris Kenny.
Mr Kenny said the Premier’s announcement on Friday on the cancellation of daily press conferences was one he had been hoping for “many, many weeks”.
“It only creates an unhelpful sense of crisis when we need to just get on with dealing with reality,” he said.
He welcomed an “end to the daily updates from the Premier," saying the briefings "tend to catastrophise the situation" and "give the impression that there is no other issue" or challenge facing the government.
“Look, some media will whinge, but we will get all the information we need, and if we want to hear from the Premier, there will be other interviews, other press conferences.
“The timing is a bit awkward because the situation is expected to be pretty tough in coming weeks, but I would have ended these briefings weeks ago, in fact, I don't think any Premier should ever have started doing them every day.”
