Department of Medicine and Hematopathology presented a case where a patient got pricked in her toe which changed color to bluish-black with swelling in a day. The detailed work-up revealed a rare condition known as "Essential Thrombocytosis" where platelet counts are persistently raised. Multiple messages were delivered through this case:

3. Investigations are needed to rule out other conditions.
