The incident was given a yellow card by referee Anthony Taylor, despite allegations from the opposing players that it might have easily been raised to a red.
Jones was clearly upset after the incident, and after the ball struck him from such close range, he was left laying on the ground in pain.
His manager Jurgen Klopp was also furious with the episode and was engaged in a lengthy conversation with the fourth official in an animated fashion.
