How To Meditate

It's 6:30 in the morning and these sentences are forming with the ease of a swift breeze that keeps eagles soaring... hope it's not boring

If you notice the sensation, speed, and depth of your breath

The slithering slide as slightly cooled oxygen glides & flows into the holes of your nose

The soft spill of CO2 falling upwards from your lungs and out of your mouthpiece lips crease

And. The. Spaces. In. Between. Each. Of. These.

Then... you are moving towards zen

Bismillah is the verbiage sung vehemently in the forever classic rock ballad, Bohemian Rhapsody

"Bismillah! No, we will not let you go
(Let him go!) Bismillah! We will not let you go
(Let him go!) Bismillah! We will not let you go"

In the Koran, every chapter (except one) begins with the word Bismillah

And you may have heard Dr. Rahim say it before he adjusts

"Bismillah ~ CRACK"

It means "In the name of Allah"

Follow me here my friends

Allah is both the name of God, and the word for God

In essence, this most important sacred phrase of Islam is used before performing good deeds

or any daily activities

Washing the dishes... Bismillah
Putting away clean clothes... Bismillah
Preparing, sharing, eating a bite of food... Bismillah

It's all done in the spirit of God

Now

in Sufi circles, we say Bismillah also means "remember"

Just keep remembering God
Just keep remembering God

For me... it disintegrates cynical and pessimistic language... when I'm remembering

Sometimes I forget to remember

And that's why it's called practice

Just like this practice of cracks bliss

Listen... sometimes when I release the pain of a childhood traumatic memory ... it's gonna hurt

And sometimes those traumatic memories have built castles around a person's psyche... with catapults and archers aimed and ready... vats of oil set ablaze pouring from the turret... a moat filled with poisonous snakes, toads, plants, and maybe some grumpy orks too

There's nothing else to do except proceed with kindness and compassion

Just REMEMBER

Bc trust is the only way into the castle

Tonight I adjusted a college campus resident advisor. He commented on the occurrence of mental health decline this time of year... added on top of 18 months post corona restrictions, he's seeing a trend of decreased social and communicative skills

Can we just pause to talk about this... Seasonal Affective Disorder

We just accept it and move on without any conscious realization of what's actually occurring

LESS SUN = LESS HAPPY

Stop... and think about that

The sun is 93 million fn miles away from your beautiful face

Which means it's immense... you can fit a million earths into it (facts)

Its 7 billion years old

and it cooks happiness... inside your brain chemical synapses

Anyway, the resident director mentions how important words are in his work

And bc of the growing lexicon of unsupported but abundant lessons from the University of Memes of Instagram

People say things like "triggered" and "unsafe" which immediately sets off the chain of command, investigations, and all the bells and whistles meant to procure resident safety

But really they may have just meant "uncomfortable" or "awkward" or something of the lesser extent

So, in Zowie's case...I was elated that she had the courage to share her story

Because sometimes there's a story like hers behind the "difficultness" of a person

Sometimes there's not

For you and me, it's really none of our business

No one owes anybody an explanation for their behavior

However YOU... do owe it to yourself

To check-in with what YOU'RE working with

And if it's trauma... healing it
And if it's drama... wheeling that shiz
And to Pachamama... revealing the feelings you've been concealing

And Remember

The universe has your back

So point your nose in a positive direction with your intention

And row, hike, push, climb, slide, ride, jive, jiggle, wiggle, dance, flip, spin, speak, tweak, twerk,

WORK

that fine as* in whatever direction makes your happiness soup bubble

So... Full Circle... How Do You Meditate?

1) Move your body vigorously. Work out the tension- 5 minutes
2) Sit motionless and silent- 5 minutes
3) Clear your vessel with the mantra
I am nothing
I'm doing nothing
I want nothing

Feel Gratitude. Not as a word but as a vibration in your heart space

Repeat. Mantra. Breath Awareness. Gratitude

And Yes... eventually, your spirit can touch the infinite boundary

& find peace
