COVID-19: First image shows Omicron variant has high number of mutations compared to Delta

Scientists are racing to find answers about Omicron as the new COVID-19 variant has spread to over a dozen countries and territories. Early evidence suggests Omicron is highly contagious. The first "image" of Omicron shows over 30 spike protein mutations, while Delta has 18. More spike protein mutations suggests more transmissibility. Dr Annelies Wilder-Smith from the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine at Nanyang Technological University shared her thoughts on how the new variant will affect global COVID-19 vaccination efforts.
