International female athletes are pushing for uniforms that are more inclusive and less sexualised. The decision by Norway’s women’s beach handball team to wear shorts instead of bikini bottoms at the European Beach Handball championship earlier this month led to a €1500 (US$1770) fine. Similar calls for more inclusive uniforms have been made at the Tokyo Olympics, where Germany’s women’s gymnastics team wore unitards instead of the usual leotards.
