
Storm Arwen hits Greater Manchester with 120 HGVs trapped in snow on M62
Storm Arwen has hit large parts of the UK and Greater Manchester bringing with it strong winds and heavy snow.
The M62 near Milnrow was closed between junctions 21 and 22 at 2.30am on Saturday morning after more than 120 lorries got stuck in heavy snow.
Snow ploughs and gritters were deployed to clear the road.
Other exposed roads were affected with the Woodhead Pass closed to high-sided vehicles and police also urging motorists to avoid the Snake Pass.
A yellow weather warning for snow is in place for parts of Greater Manchester, the north of England and large parts of Scotland on Saturday evening.
In Manchester city centre emergency services were called to the Northern Quarter after wooden boards were blown onto two parked cars by the winds.
There were also reports of fallen trees across the region with disruption reported on the rail and road network.
