Queensland's beaches are usually packed between Christmas and New Year's Day, but beachgoers on the Gold Coast are almost outnumbered by lifeguards today.
The "pretty average" numbers are thanks to the poor weather and water conditions, says Surfers Paradise Patrol Vice Caption Luke Nicholas.
"It's quite relaxing for us but not good for the tourists and holidaymakers."
